The incident began at about 8pm on Tuesday, October 22, when the robbers confronted the vehicles owner, threatened him with a firearm and stole his vehicle.
The police were alerted about the crime and they initiated a search of the hijacked vehicle.
The suspects managed to evade police for three hours, but cops finally caught up with them while driving along Trunk Tree Street, Reiger Park at about 11pm.
When the police pulled the driver over, one of the alleged hijackers jumped out of the vehicle and escaped on foot, apparently with the firearm used during the hijacking.
Police also found the victim's cellphone stolen during the incident, in the suspects possession.
However, the victims laptop and groceries were not found.
The suspect was charged with car-jacking and theft. Police are still trying to establish if the suspects are members of the auto-theft ring that is terrorising the city.
Dozens of vehicles are stolen every day in the city by thieves.
The most affected areas in the Boksburg CBD include Commissioner, Leeuwpoort and Market streets.
