DA caucus leader in Ekurhuleni, Clr Eddie Taylor, has said that the new executive mayor, Clr Gungubele will have to face an assessment from the party within 100 days of his appointment.

"In the spirit of open-mindedness, the DA will postpone its annual assessment of the mayor and the Mayoral Committee until he has had time to find his feet," Taylor said.

"Gungubele has 190 days before the 2011 Local Government Elections to make his mark.

"My advice to him is to go to Cape Town and see how a metro should be run.

"Secondly, the problem of R1-billion of uncollected service charges facing Ekurhuleni needs to be addressed.

"Furthermore, the service delivery crisis is a matter of urgency.

Taylor supports the new executive mayor's assertion that managers should manage and politicians should stick to politics.

He also applauded Gungubele's undertaking to fight corruption and enforce clean governance in the metro.
