Gina (26), who currently resides in Cape Town grew up on a small holding in Eikenhof, on the outskirts of the South of Johannesburg. The talented young model has since then lived abroad for many years but moved back to South Africa about three years ago.
The beautiful brunette officially started her career in modelling when she had to hand over the Miss South Africa Teen title to her successor in 2001. Gina claimed the prize for this in 2000. At the young age of 17 Gina was introduced to the world of modelling when she was scouted by one of the best modelling agency’s in the world.
“Bruno Jamaigne from Paris agency, IMG spotted me in Cape Town and soon after I moved to Paris to pursue a career in the industry. At first I loved the catwalk best and high-end fashion shoots, but these pay the least. Now I enjoy campaigns and catalogues. Catalogues are a lot more commercial, but I think the cherry on top is when you land a campaign”.
Her word of advice to upcoming models is to be comfortable within your own body. “If you are confident it comes across and shows in the shot. The eyes never lie… Everything can be touched-up, except for one’s eyes. You can’t have a beautiful picture without any depth to it. So always make sure that you speak to the camera.”
Her company, Gina Athans PR is a full-service innovative public relations agency which strives to conquer the status quo, delivering creative and the very best solution in often tough climates. “We work closely with our all clients – this ensures that we fully understand their brand, dreams and objectives.
“Our aim is to find appropriate solutions which will exceed expectations and can be promptly delivered.”
When Gina is not posing in front of a camera or jetting off overseas to attend a meeting, she loves spending time with her two dogs, Daisy and Lou-Lou. She laughs when saying that she is extremely good in doing nothing. Because of her hectic schedule she tries to relax and have some quiet time to herself. “I also enjoy travelling for pleasure, catching up on sleep and I adore dining with very close friends.”
Gina is a strong believer of giving and loving those around her and is also very passionate about her job. She is actually passionate about the beauty in everything - life, people, art, music and much more. The one place in life that centres her is home. “There is absolutely no place like home, it’s my sanctuary where I can relax and recharge.”
