Pilgrim's Rest matric pass rate impoved from 49% to 81%

PILGRIM'S REST - The Pilgrim's Rest City Secondary School pass rate for 2011 is a 81% This is a marked improvement from the 2010 pass rate of 49%. The improvement can be attributed to the dedication, discipline and hard work of the learners and teachers.
The residents of Pilgrim's Rest hosted a celebratory function for the successful matrics. Mr. Danny Jacobs, Mine Manager of the Transvaal Gold Mining Estates (TGME) announced at the function that the Mine will award three bursaries to the top three learners of 2011, in order to further their studies at University or Technicon. Johnny Reinders and his wife Rene Reinders, owners of Johnny's Pub and The Vine Restaurant in Pilgrim's Rest, also awarded a cash donation to Gugulethu Ntimane, matriculant of the Pilgrim's Rest City Secondary School. Gugu's mother, Dorries Ntimane is a loyal employee of The Vine and the Reinders' believe in supporting their staff, and their children.
The three top students of the school are Iketle Mphakane,Leonard Molobela and Bernett Malibe. Iketle will be studying Chemical Engineering at the Vaal University of Technology in Vereeniging. This is a 4 year degree. Leonard Molobela will commence with a course in building construction. He has not finalised all his arrangements as yet. Bernett Malibe will be doing a six month course in Marketing Management at the C.M. Phatudi college in Burgersfort. He will then commence with his diploma in Industrial Relations at a University next year. The bursaries awarded to them will cover the total cost of their tuition, all books, their accommodation expenses, food as well as pocket money. TGME will monitor their progress and will actively support them with any assistance they need.
