The protest on 24 November was led by actor Terrence Bridget and featured representatives from a number of trade unions, independent film and TV production sector organisations.
Members from the South African Screen Federation and non-profit organisations including the Freedom of Expression Institute, Media Monitoring Africa, and the Media Institute of Southern Africa were dressed in black and red. They sang and danced with their placards.
A memorandum was handed over to of the communications portfolio committee Eric Kholwane.
The coalition's vision is to create a public broadcasting system dedicated to quality, diverse, citizen-orientated public programming that deepens democracy and the country's constitution.
The belief that every South African is entitled to receive radio and television programming in more of the official languages was stressed at the protest.
Picketers demanded to see more local content and less repeats on the public broadcaster.
