POLOKWANE - A large oil spill on the corner of Kruger and Grobler Street on Tuesday caused a number of vehicles to slide and almost caused accidents.
The oil was spilled by illegal motor vehicle repairers, who use the street as their workshop.
"We cleared the spill and some of the illegal motor repairers were taken away, while others were warned and fined. This is an ongoing problem and we are not resting until all of these illegal activities are stopped in their tracks," said Simon Mokoatedi, the communications manager for the municipality.
Review has received complaints from shop owners about stains from brake fluid, motor oil, power steering fluid and transmission fluid which are left uncleaned on Kruger Street. Mokoatedi said strong action is being taken to stop illegal vehicle repairs in the city.
All complaints can be directed to the municipality at (015) 290 2000.
